Arkanoid completed, Graphical trickery and Alumni days

This past week we went over the last pieces of the Arkanoid project and finalized the code for it. We added the sprites, created the paddle, ball, and blocks, and gave them all their collision properties.

We also worked with the extra additions granted from SDL (Simple DirectMedia Layer) to learn some way to work with alpha, which allows degrees of translucency. We also learned a fair bit about adding text into an SDL window and allow it to be changed in real time, which makes things such as hi-score, messages, etc possible to easy display and chance according to what is needed.

On a different note, this week hosted the Alumni days, where previous students visited the school to talk about their experiences and the knowledge they have gained both from the education and from their years in the industry. I took the chance and attended some of these, and I would call it worth the time. There were a lot of good advice, and a nice insights in different ways to work within both small and large companies. It was good knowledge to gain and I do not regret visiting any of the lectures. I hope the Alumni days tradition will keep going and look forward to next time.
